Two Week Thoughts

Today makes two weeks since we left Coastal Georgia for Alaska. We have traveled almost 6500 miles by car and train, not to mention miles on the water, and seen many fantastic sights. We have learned what it is like to travel again with such great friends. We have joked, teased each other, been fathered by Roddy, mothered by Janice, watched Debbie sleep and laugh, Driven and pushed to stay on schedule by Mike (me), We have all had our turns at driving, not only from behind the wheel, but also from the back seats and passenger seat. Most of all we have truly enjoyed each other’s company. We whine about the long drives each day, only to find out when we get to our destinations, that it was more than worth it. We have seen and experienced history all along our trip. We have met some interesting people with great stories to tell. The scenery and wildlife around every turn have kept us on edge wondering what will be next. The drive here was long, but worth every mile and every penny that we donated to the Oil Companies to get here. My Suburban burning a valve (cheap oxygenated gas) in Montana was a blessing in disguise, at least it saved it from having to travel the gravel/dirt/mud roads that we have encountered it also saved the accumulated mileage by leaving it behind. For information purposes only, if you see a Crimson 2007 Suburban on a Hertz lot with Montana tags, you might want to think twice about renting it and most definitely purchasing it. I will furnish the VIN upon request. Honestly the Suburban that GM furnished us while mine is being fixed (under warranty) has been a great vehicle, very comfortable and not bad fuel mileage. It has taken the worst that the Yukon and Alaskan roads have had to offer and never missed a beat, not one rattle…………yet. We miss our family and friends and wish they all could be here. Alaska is a fantastic place, with beautiful sights and the nicest people we have ever met in all our travels. They love where they live and are proud to be Alaskans, and it shows. Alaska should be on everyone’s must see list. If you do make the trip, drive, you will not regret it. Will have more later………….

We definitely want to make the trip when the kids get older and can appreciate it.
