Started off the day with breakfast at the Springhill Suites and then hit the road to find a place here in Fairbanks to get Roddy measured for a tux. We stopped at a shop and the man working there was from Augusta Georgia, come all the way to Alaska to be measured by a guy from Georgia for Jamie’s wedding in North Carolina. We left the tux shop and went to Pioneer Park, used to be Alaska Land, to walk and look at the different exhibits. We decide to take the Riverboat Discovery tour; it was well worth the money. We cruised on the Chena River down to the Tanana River, the world’s longest glacier fed river. On the way down the river we got to see some fantastic log homes. We stopped at Trailbreaker Kennel, the home of four time Iditarod champion, Susan Butcher. We met her husband and two daughters, the oldest is 11 who entered this year’s Iditarod and spread her mother’s ashes along the trail. We visited an Athabasca Indian village and were introduced to their way of living in the Alaska wilderness. We finished the day with an outdoor dinner at the Alaska Salmon Bake, with fire cooked Salmon, Prime Rib and Halibut, one fantastic meal that we all enjoyed. The meal inspired us to take a long walk after returning to the hotel. Tomorrow we ride up the Dalton Highway 200 miles (gravel and dirt road), parallel to the Alaskan Pipeline, to the Arctic Circle.
